Vel Scott is a long-time resident, entrepreneur and community leader who has made decades of investment where the neighborhoods of Fairfax and University Circle meet. From 1963-1998, she and her late husband Don Scott ran Vel’s, a club that served as a social and cultural hub for many local residents. She founded Vel's Purple Oasis, a community-based urban farm just south of 105 and Cedar, in 2008.  Through Vel Scott’s Healthy You, she teaches workshops around the city on integrating healthy, plant-based cooking into students’ lives.
